Online Safety
KEEPING CHILDREN SAFE ONLINE AT SCHOOL
As a school, we have established clear roles, responsibilities, and strategies to ensure the effectiveness of our filtering and monitoring systems when it comes to the use of technology. Our Designated Safeguarding Lead, School Business Manager, and IT provider (Simply ICT) review these systems annually. Although we use Smoothwall to monitor all our devices, we understand that no system is 100% effective. To ensure that our pupils’ safety is maintained, we conduct regular training for our staff on supervising children using devices and integrate online safety into our PSHE curriculum and safeguarding policies.

Operation Encompass
WHAT IS OPERATION ENCOMPASS?
As part of Ludworth Primary School’s commitment to keeping children safe, we have signed up to implement the principles and aims of the Operation Encompass Model. Operation Encompass is the reporting to schools, prior to the start of the next school day, when a child or young person has been exposed to, or involved in, any domestic incident.
OUR COMMITMENT TO OPERATION ENCOMPASS:
- Endorse the Encompass Model and support the Key Adults in our school to fulfil the requirements of the Encompass Protocol
- Promote and implement Encompass processes and use these in accordance with internal safeguarding children processes
- Recognise the sensitive nature of the information provided and ensure that this is retained in accordance with the principles of data protection
WHAT DOES OPERATION ENCOMPASS DO?
Operation Encompass will ensure that a member of the school staff, known as a Key Adult, is trained to allow them to liaise with the police and to use the information that has been shared, in confidence, while ensuring that the school is able to make provision for possible difficulties experienced by children, or their families, who have been involved in, or exposed to, a domestic abuse incident.
At Ludworth our school the Key Adult is our Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, Mrs Victoria Walker.
Prevent Duty
WHAT IS THE PREVENT DUTY?
‘The Prevent duty requires all education providers ‘to help prevent the risk of people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism’. This includes safeguarding learners from extremist ideologies and radicalisation. Most importantly, providers should consider the needs of children, young people and adult learners at each stage of the safeguarding process. Providers should consider radicalisation concerns in line with their existing safeguarding processes, skills and experience.’ – Department for Education (2024): The Prevent duty.
The Prevent strategy is a government strategy designed to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism. It:
- Responds to the ideological challenge we face from terrorism and aspects of extremism, and the threat we face from those who promote these views
- Provides practical help to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism and ensure they are given appropriate advice and support
- Works with a wide range of sectors (including education, criminal justice, faith, charities, online and health)

Government Prevent Duty Guidance
THE PREVENT DUTY AT LUDWORTH
As part of Ludworth Primary School’s commitment to safeguarding and child protection we fully support the government’s Prevent Strategy. We recognise that in an ever changing and fast-moving world, it is essential that we promote children’s well-being, confidence and resilience and that we provide them with up to date and age-appropriate information and signpost them to places where they can find support where necessary.
We see protecting our children from the risk of radicalisation as part of our wider safeguarding duties, and that it is similar in nature to protecting students from other harms (e.g. drugs, gangs, cyber-bullying, neglect and sexual exploitation). We acknowledge the Prevent duty and we have due regard to the need to prevent children and their families from being drawn into any illegal activity, including terrorism.
At Ludworth Primary School all staff are expected to uphold the fundamental principles of British values, including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. These values are promoted through our school values and ethos, the curriculum, assembly themes and PSHE work.

KEEPING CHILDREN SAFE AT LUDWORTH
Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility. Everyone who comes into contact with children and their families and carers has a role to play in safeguarding children.
At Ludworth Primary School, the safety and wellbeing of our children is our top priority. We are committed to providing a safe and welcoming learning environment where children feel respected and valued. This commitment is underpinned by our moral and statutory responsibility to safeguard all children.
WHAT DOES SAFEGUARDING MEAN?
Safeguarding, as defined by the Department for Education’s ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education 2024’ guidance, involves:
- Protecting children from harm (maltreatment, abuse, neglect)
- Supporting their mental and physical health and development
- Ensuring they grow up in safe and nurturing environments
- Empowering them to reach their full potential
OUR SAFEGUARDING APPROACH AT LUDWORTH
Following the principles outlined in “Keeping Children Safe in Education,” we have robust procedures in place to identify and address any concerns about a child’s safety. This includes being alert to signs of abuse and neglect, and ensuring every child receives the support and protection they need.
EVERYONE HAS A ROLE TO PLAY
Safeguarding is a shared responsibility. Everyone at Ludworth Primary School, including staff, volunteers, governors, and any adult visiting our school site, plays a crucial role. These procedures are consistent with those of Stockport’s Safeguarding Children Board, ensuring a coordinated approach across the community. We believe in open communication and collaboration with parents, carers, and external agencies. By working together, we can create a safe and supportive environment where everyone within our school community feels valued and protected.
ENTRY AND EXIT TO SCHOOL
Doors and entrances are locked at 8:50am. Visitors or late arrivals are asked to use the main entrance of the building and report to the school office.
Our school gates are locked and cannot be opened between 8.30am and 9:15am, and from 2.45pm to 3.45pm. This is to safeguard children and visitors entering and exiting our school site at busy times.
All visitors to school will be asked to sign in and out at the office and wear the relevant coloured lanyard which denotes their DBS status. Visitors wearing a red lanyard must be accompanied at all times by a member of staff.
