School Council

School Council at Ludworth

At Ludworth, children are at the heart of everything we do, and this philosophy is embedded in our curriculum and decision-making processes. A cornerstone of this approach is our School Council, which empowers all pupils with a meaningful voice in shaping their school experience.

At the beginning of each academic year, every class elects a representative to serve on the School Council. These representatives act as the “voice” of their peers,
bringing class perspectives to council meetings to discuss and address significant school-wide matters. Leading the council are our Head and Deputy Councillors, four Year 6 pupils elected by the staff for their leadership potential and commitment.

The School Council has a real and lasting impact on Ludworth. They have spearheaded initiatives such as improving lunchtime provisions, enhancing the physical environment, and creating systems to ensure everyone feels supported and happy during playtimes. Their efforts have resulted in new playground equipment, redesigned playground markings, and a more inclusive and enjoyable school atmosphere.

This year, the council introduced the Ludworth Values Award, recognising one pupil per class every half-term for embodying the school’s core values. The council played a key role in designing the award badge and crafting communications to parents, further demonstrating their leadership and creativity.

In addition to their internal responsibilities, our council members take pride in showcasing Ludworth to prospective families. During parent tours, they act as guides, offering an authentic glimpse into the life of a Ludworth child and embodying the ethos of our school.

At Ludworth, our School Council exemplifies the values of leadership, collaboration, and pupil empowerment, making a tangible difference in our school community.
