At Ludworth we believe that every child is an artist, and our art curriculum aims to empower students to embrace their unique perspectives and unleash their creative potential. We encourage our children’s creativity, imagination, and critical thinking skills, providing opportunities for self-expression and cultural understanding. Our children learn to observe, interpret, and respond to the world around them through artistic forms. They explore and experiment with a variety of media and techniques, including drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, and digital art.

‘Art is a place for children to learn to trust their ideas, themselves, and to explore what is possible’ – Mary Ann F. Kohl

Our whole curriculum has been carefully designed to ensure a balanced and progressive learning journey for all students. Our whole curriculum is shaped by our school vision which aims to enable all children, regardless of background, ability, additional needs, to flourish and become the very best version of themselves.  Art provides a unique platform for self-expression, helping children to communicate their thoughts, emotions, and experiences in a safe and supportive environment. We encourage children to embrace mistakes as opportunities for growth, nurturing their confidence and resilience throughout their artistic journey. It is designed to engage, inspire and challenge children, whilst equipping them with the knowledge and skills to be able to experiment, invent and create their own works of art. It is structured to broaden children’s knowledge and understanding of various artistic techniques, materials, and styles, whilst also allowing space for their creativity and personal expression.

Our curriculum incorporates a wide range of artists and art forms, both historical and contemporary, from different cultures and eras. Through studying art from different cultures and historical periods, our children gain insights into the social, historical, and cultural contexts that shape art. We encourage them to reflect on their own cultural identity while developing empathy and respect for others’ viewpoints and experiences.
