Governing Body

Chair of Governors; Pay appeals, Diversity link governor, EYFS link governor

I am delighted to be Chair of Governors for Ludworth Primary School. Our three children attended the school, so I was part of the parent community for over a decade and we have been consistently delighted with the ethos, values and quality of education they received.

I have been on the Governing Board for six years already, playing an active role as Development Governor, and then Co-Vice Chair and have held a variety of link governor roles. Participating in school activities and learning walks as a governor is always a pleasure, particularly hearing from the children across the school.

We live in Marple and love the area, especially walking along the canal and through Brabyns Park, we have so much on our doorstep here and it is such a vibrant community with lots of events and activities.

In my day job I lead on ESG and Sustainability for a large International Engineering Consultancy and I hope that I can bring those purpose led skills and insights to the board and its development. The role of the Chair is a varied one, and I commit to being my best self in the delivery of Ludworth’s strategic development.

Development link governor; SEND Link governor, Pay appeals committee

I have lived in Marple for eight years and have been part of the Ludworth Primary School community since my oldest son started school in September 2018. He is now in Year 5 and I have another son in Year 2.

I was elected as a Parent Governor in May 2023.  It has been a pleasure getting to know more about the school and seeing the staff and parents working so hard to create a wonderful learning environment for our children. I have particularly enjoyed taking part in Learning Walks as a Governor; seeing the curriculum come to life in the classroom and having the opportunity to watch our children flourish and grow. I believe the Governing Board has a very important role in supporting the Headteacher and the school to continue to deliver a high quality of education whilst ensuring the health and wellbeing of all the children and staff.

When neither being parent nor a Governor, I work as a solicitor specialising in construction contracts and disputes.  I also enjoy making the most of the beautiful countryside around Marple and spending time with my family and friends.

SEND Link governor; Music Link governor, Pay appeals committee; Finance working group

I am really excited to have recently joined the Governing Body at Ludworth as a parent governor. I am looking forward to learn more whilst also ensuring the children continue to receive the amazing care and educational support the school are providing. I have been part of the Ludworth community since 2015 when my eldest started Ludworth and currently have a daughter in year 4. I have enjoyed being part of the community at Ludworth, I was PTA Chair for several years which was rewarding working with staff, parents and the children whilst raising funds for the school.

I have been a Compliance Officer in the Financial Services industry for 20 years and am responsible for ensuring firm’s meet their regulatory requirements and have appropriate risk management processes in place. I hope these skills will be useful and transferable to my role as parent governor.

In my free time, I enjoy horse riding and spending time with family and friends.

I was born in Marple, the daughter of the village grocer, and have lived in Marple/Marple Bridge for most of my life. My children both attended Ludworth in the 1980s and I worked there as a teacher for a short time. I also taught at Mellor Primary and All Saints Primary before moving to Tameside where I enjoyed being Headteacher of Hurst Methodist Junior School, Ashton and later Godley Nursery and Primary Community School, Hyde. I became Chairperson of Tameside Primary Heads Consortium and Secretary of the NAHT (National Association of Headteachers) working with officers from the LEA.

Now retired, I still enjoy being in schools, since education and the love of children still runs in my veins and seeing the school move forward and playing my part is still a joy. I am a member of Mellor Parish Centre Management Committee and play badminton at the sports club. My other interests? I love travelling the world with my husband, also a retired headteacher, and we take great pleasure in looking after our two granddaughters who also live in Marple.

I am thrilled to be the Community Governor of Ludworth and happy to be involved in or support all our local activities whether it be Marple Carnival or some local sporting or fun event.

Staff governor

As a dedicated member of the Ludworth teaching team for the past nine years, I am also passionate about contributing to the further success of our wonderful school as a Staff Governor. Since starting my career as an NQT in Reception, I have gained invaluable experience teaching across all three key stages, allowing me to understand our whole school context and appreciate how to best support every stakeholder in striving to be their best selves.

Serving as a Staff Governor is an opportunity to ensure that our children’s and staffs’ perspectives are thoughtfully represented. I believe in ensuring an inclusive environment where every voice is valued, and I am committed to supporting both the professional well-being of staff and the educational outcomes of all our children.

I live locally to our school and I am keen to ensure Ludworth is showcased within our community; recently you may have seen some of the brilliant opportunities we provide our children as their fantastic work has been displayed in our local library, in Memorial Park and in the Train station.

I am excited to continue championing the best interests of our children, staff, families and local community through working collaboratively with the governing body to shape a positive future of our school. Through my years at Ludworth, I have witnessed the school’s growth and success, and I am proud to be a part of this journey.

I am thrilled to be supporting Ludworth to be the best school it can be as a co-opted Governor.

We first moved to Marple as a family in 2020 and my eldest daughter started at the school in 2023. I love our local community and the role Ludworth plays at the heart of it, which is why I was keen to share my time and expertise to support the school to continue to thrive. I’m particularly passionate about health and wellbeing, of both students and staff, and supporting the school to celebrate diversity and champion inclusive approaches.

I have a professional background supporting and advising senior leaders in Parliament, and for the last ten years in the NHS. I have experience in communications and stakeholder engagement, as well as strategy development and governance. In my spare time I enjoy singing as part of a local musical theatre choir and spending time with family and friends.

Headteacher Performance Management; Pay and Appraisal Committee; Curriculum Link Governor

My husband and I moved to Marple Bridge four years ago and we love living here. As a family we really value the beautiful countryside and the community spirit of the area. I have a daughter in reception at Ludworth and a 1 year old son and we enjoy exploring the area at weekends.

I am thrilled to be elected as a governor at Ludworth and to have the opportunity to contribute to the school. In the short time my daughter has been attending we have been very impressed with the team ethos and friendly nature of the school.

My background is in finance, business and property.  For the last 7 years I have worked for Barclays Wealth managing client’s financial affairs and looking after their investments. I am looking forward to learning more about education and inspiring learning in young children. I will also enjoy getting to know the other governors and working as a team.

In my free time I enjoy walking in the countryside with my family, and good food.

Category of governor: Staff governor (as a result of Headteacher status)
Finance working group; Pay & Appraisals Committee; Headteacher

I have worked in schools for 28 years, starting my journey in Liverpool over a 4 year Bachelor of Education with Honours Degree. I spent the next 20 years working in 7 different schools across Tameside in many different roles. I have led most subject areas across school and progressed from class teacher to working in management roles. These have included phase leader, deputy head teacher, associate head teacher and head teacher. Each new school and experience has enriched my life and I have always enjoyed the variety of challenges each setting brings.

I took up my second headship at Ludworth in January 2015 and have loved every minute getting to know this lovely community. I have enjoyed the changes and challenges thus far at Ludworth and look forward to many exciting and stimulating years continuing to make Ludworth as successful a school as possible!

Category of governor: Coopted Governor

My family moved to Marple in 2023 and we love it here! We live close to the town centre and we love being able to pop into town or walk down into Marple Bridge during the weekends. We feel very blessed to live in such a beautiful place with such a strong sense of community.

I started my career as an English teacher in a large 11-18 secondary school in Warrington. I then became Head of English and shortly after, became a senior leader, leading in schools in Altrincham, Tameside, Manchester. I led a school as a Principal for 6 years; I set the up from the start and led it to be a large successful school achieving a good Ofsted and excellent outcomes. I am currently Director of Education within a MAT serving 11 schools; primary, secondary and special.

I was elected as a governor at Ludworth in November 2024. I feel very lucky to serve on the governing body and build on what is already a fantastic school

Governing Body meetings

The Governing Body holds a planning meeting at the beginning of the academic year and six full governing body meetings; one in each half term of the autumn, spring and summer terms. A range of issues are considered and discussed including reports from governing body committees and subject leaders; model policies and decisions relating to the strategic management of the school.
